Hey Lutherans! It’s Black History Month which means it’s a great time to celebrate and honor Black voices and excellence in the @thelcms. Here’s a thread to get us started:
@ConcordiaPub published two great blog posts from two powerhouse LCMS church workers, who are also siblings!
Deaconess Janine Bolling on how sharing stories of Black excellence in the classroom is an act of service to our students and enriches our witness of God’s love for all. https://blog.cph.org/teach/celebrating-black-history-month-in-a-christian-classroom
Pastor Gerard Bolling on feeling both the pressure of being a Black man and the relief of knowing he’s been redeemed by God. https://blog.cph.org/read/black-history-and-his-story
@L4RacialJustice has been KILLING IT all this month, getting perspectives on the richness of Black history from Black Lutheran pastors and church workers throughout the synod, like this one

Theology buff? Look no further than the @WittenbergShow as @Lex_Lutheran and @a_concordia dive into meaty theological discussions and offer fresh perspectives on the rich history of the Lutheran confessions. https://www.youtube.com/c/WittenbergProject/featured
Have you heard @Flame314's new album yet? It dropped Jan. 29 & it’s

(pun intended, sorry.) Check it out, and give him a follow while you’re at it! http://smarturl.it/ChristForYou

@concordiatx is featuring a student from their Black Student Union on their Instagram every Monday this month and giving them an awesome platform to share some significant achievements in black history! https://twitter.com/concordiatx/status/1358838088127119360?s=20
On Feb. 25, @CUNE (the best Concordia
) is hosting a virtual panel discussion that will highlight Black alumni doing great work in different industries across the country. You can tune in at 7 pm CST on their YouTube or Facebook page! https://www.cune.edu/events/general/celebrating-black-history-concordia-alumni-panel

Earlier this week the LCMS Urban & Inner City Mission hosted Rev. B. Keith Haney to explore how Christians can begin to tear down the racial walls dividing our country. It’s okay if you missed it! You can still watch the whole webinar

Don’t forget about Lutheran education champion, Rosa Young! Never heard of her? Check out the documentary “The First Rosa” and other resources on the @thelcms website. https://www.lcms.org/thefirstrosa
And her very cool photo archive at the Concordia Historical Institute! https://lcmsphoto.photoshelter.com/gallery/Rosa-J-Young-photo-collection/G0000i9cnBLwLJXM/C00001amVPS_nqHQ
The Black Clergy Caucus of the LCMS has some GOOD STUFF cooking, including the Institute of Black Lutheran Studies and the Center for Social Justice, which will equip clergy and church workers for culturally sensitive ministry from a Lutheran perspective. And you can help

Real quick white guy alert: Ever heard of Rev. Andrew Schulze? He was fighting for desegregation in the Lutheran church...20 years before desegregation was even a mainstream conversation

You can read all about his ministry in this fascinating biography by Dr. Kathryn Galchutt of @concordiany. https://www.amazon.com/SCHULZE-Religion-Kathryn-Galchutt-2005-09-22/dp/B01FKW8GSU/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=kathryn+m.+galchutt&qid=1613681375&s=books&sr=1-1
Bonus content: It’s also the beginning of Lent, which is the perfect time for self-reflection. Check out @borrasso's recent paper for an academic and historically critical look at the @thelcms' history with Black ministry
