One thing about PI life that I don't think any postdoc training can prepare you for is how much of a rollercoaster it can be, how you can go from "things are going really well" to "my current situation is untenable" even in a matter of minutes

Update: my wife says it's always been a rollercoaster and I'm just experiencing recency bias

Really don't remember the ups and downs coming this fast, though

I really do like this job more than any position I've had previously, by a long shot. It's fantastic. It's just a lot of consequential moving pieces all at once so the frequency of events is much much higher than anything before
