I have to say, the move to force $2000 hotel quarantines on Canadians trying to return home (many of whom left for work overseas before any requirements like this existed) is ridiculous.

Putting aside the constitutionality of such a policy, how does a three day stay at a hotel even cost $2000?
Has the government never heard of hotwire? http://Hotels.com ? Expedia?

Why not test everyone before they board the plane, and then mandate quarantine at home (in isolation) or at self-chosen hotel while they await results?
If negative, remain in self-quarantine and take another test five days later. If the result is negative again, you should be free to go.
This isn't rocket science. I'm not sure why the government always has to make things more complicated (and expensive) than they need to be.
Canada shouldn't be throwing its own citizens under the bus.
