I’m no expert analyst of the game. There are people on here far more capable than me. But I really wanted to have a go at analysing an area of the game that is very close to my heart.

HERE ARE MY FIVE MOST MEMORABLE TYPES OF TACKLE FROM EA SPORTS RUGBY ‘08:
“Hello there! I’m Ian Robertson, and welcome to today’s coverage of this exhibition thread. I’m joined in the commentary box by former All Black fly half, Grant Fox”
“Thenks Ian! I think we’re in for an exciting metch; it should be a great day for ragby”

I’ll stop with the Robertson-Fox introductory dialogue before it gets too weird. Now let’s take that trip down Memory Lane:
5TH PLACE - THE AIRSHOT:
That mischievous mate of yours would always seize the opportunity to commit foul play, but only the craftiest could execute this one to perfection. A young Kieran Read on the receiving end here
4TH PLACE: THE TRY SAVER - Remember former Canada full back Mike Pyke? Maybe not but what a bloody name and what a hit son. Am yet to see a real life scenario where the defender does a run up from the dead ball area, so kudos to EA Sports for the authenticity
3RD PLACE: THE FLYING SPEAR 🥉 Remember what your coaches said? “Always kick up your legs before contact so that your whole body is horizontal as you make the hit”.
This tackle would always stifle any kick attempt that wasn’t in the pocket. Even Romania could pull it off ⬇️
2ND PLACE: THE CLOTHESLINE 🥈 Percy Montgomery has had just about enough of your Bulls team spamming R1* and poor Akona Ndungane is paying the price. The old-school version of rage quitting when losing.
*That’s ‘RB’ for you toxic X-boxers
1ST PLACE: THE BACK BODY DROP SUPLEX 🥇 If anyone anywhere has any footage of something even close to this being done on a rugby pitch, I really do need to see it. So again, shoutout to EA for the innovation
Hope you enjoyed the nostalgia 🏟 I don’t game these days but if you’re interested in reviving Rugby 08 gameplay with updated players/kits etc then this tutorial from @Bearsgamerr looks to be the best possible way
