I know screenwriters always dream of hooking the big fish -- which will probably be owned by Disney -- but I know we can reframe our goals for more modest success, be just as happy, and in some cases, make nearly as much money. I read the 'trades' and was interested in
Marvel's May release "Black Widow" -- first noticing the gang credited with writing.
Looking closely, we see the first credited is Stan Lee (of course) who will do very little of the actual writing (having passed away). Then we see Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson, who are credited with writing the story. Then there are "The Two Dons" - Heck and Rico who
are the comic book scribes who developed the character in that medium.

It turns out Eric Pearson was tasked with writing Black Widow all by his lonesome! That is unusual in the MCU (and elsewhere) but looking at his track record, that's understandable.

According to
Josh Wilding in
he did a Page 1 rewrite on Thor: Ragnarok and uncredited work both in pre and post-production on Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame."

In other words, he earned his bones.

We can write our dream projects, making them modestly for other
outlets (or doing them ourselves) for substantially less than $150-200 million (Black Widows projected budget). And there are plenty of emerging markets for film that will evolve rapidly as Covid-19 is vanquished and people seek more sophisticated entertainment and
venues.

I'm not discouraged, and I hope you are not either.

Besides, nothing can stop us from creating -- at least nothing has so far.

As Stan Lee would say, "Excelsior!"
