We make awards to our innovative and dedicated university teachers. In research, we applaud scholars who win grants. Is it time to recognise all those who support and enable research, and often by supporting research done by others? http://blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsocialsciences/2020/12/08/rewarding-contributions-to-research-culture-is-part-of-building-a-better-university/
I’d start by making an award to @UCD_Research staff, but that’s just me. And then I’d be looking at the staff who have enabled and sustained a research culture, for which they get insufficient thanks
And then there are those whose job it is to support research physical infrastructure and buildings ... rarely mentioned and absolutely key. Fundamental in fact. Thank you @UCDEstates
I can’t even acknowledge UCD Finance here, because they don’t seem to be on Twitter. But yet again, the research culture is not solely created by the grant award winners (who get all the plaudits, and good luck to them), but there are people who actually make it possible...
Lastly, in Covid we are all struggling - but imagine what’s it’s like to keep an entire university research culture/ecosystem alive... from your laptop in your kitchen? Anyway, thank you if you’re reading this.
And yes indeed, @UCDLibrary staff - without whom our entire research ecosystem would literally dry up. I think it’s all a good idea. Can we have an award system for our research culture builders?
