The standard for DeSantis: He must set a task force to independently vet any and every data source he uses & any mistake by his data source is b/c he's evil

The standard for Cuomo: NY's pediatric data isn't even in the AAP b/c NY hasn't released it b/c gosh darn it, data is hard
Here is the report to which I refer

DeSantis' critics are angry at *him* that the AAP used the best data they could get state-by-state and states have inconsistent data standards

https://downloads.aap.org/AAP/PDF/AAP%20and%20CHA%20-%20Children%20and%20COVID-19%20State%20Data%20Report%208.6.20%20FINAL.pdf
"Why doesn't DeSantis just apologize for using the AAP's inconsistent data?"

B/c, in politics, apologies are bullshit.

You might say the aren't but then you're unfamiliar with how the press reports on apologies.

Biden NEVER apologizes for getting anything wrong.
I'll apologize all day and night b/c I want people to know that when I get it wrong, just keep following me and I'll get it right.

I would make a terrible politician. The press feeds off that weakness.
DeSantis doesn't weasel on data. He doesn't.

He neither goes out of his way to independently correct data from a 3rd party source nor does he cherry pick his data, one piece here, another over there.

He picks a source & moves forward.
Sometimes his sources are wrong. There was one big story this summer where DeSantis got a number wrong for some meat-packing plant somewhere.

It was a big press story, he was a liar, what a monster.

Turned out it was a typo from the health department, corrected the next day.
A sane press would not report on typos.

They wouldn't attack a politician for using an objective 3rd party report by poking holes in the 3rd party report and then implying evil intent on the part of the politician.
Let me tell you a story about investigation and crazy people.

When I was 15 years old, I did a week long civics thing where my tiny little private school class went to the state capitol, learned to research bills, donations, money flow, meet our representatives, etc.
We learned what was appropriate procedure, what forms were required, etc.

I found one donation to my rep that didn't have the matching form in some other reporting repository. "Oh no!" I thought "Scandal! The refusal to submit this was a violation of state law"
Turns out is was misfiled. Someone filed it under T for "The Organization Name" someone else filed the corresponding report under O for "Organization Name"

But I got all worked up b/c I was 15 and THERE WAS A DISCREPANCY!
That's the FL press when reporting on DeSantis.

They are 15-years-old and absolutely lose their minds every time there is some inconsistency in the data.

And they *always* blame DeSantis for it.

It's pathetic.
