It's frustrating for fans/those around the #Flames to watch this group play as lethargically as they have- especially when we've seen what they're capable of at their best. Sure, some of the criticism leveled at Geoff Ward this week has been warranted, but is he really the issue?
Going back to the Bob Hartley days, this core group has caused every coach to lose it at least once. Swearing, throwing sticks, and cutting off practices early- what's the common denominator? A near-permanent exasperation with the lack of effort and passion from top players.
One of the most telling moments? @DannyAustin_9 asking Michael Frolík if this group has what it takes to go deep in playoffs after yet another elimination two seasons ago. While carefully worded in his response, Fro didn't think it was all there.
There are some players who need to do some serious soul-searching this week if they ever want to change this narrative. Will they bounce back against Edmonton? Sure, probably. They usually do when the exasperation mounts. But the pressure doesn't last and the cycle starts again
In conclusion, please, Flames, prove me wrong. In the meantime, I am re-branding this Michael Bolton classic as the Sam Bennett (sans mustache) theme song.
