The Equality Act does much more than clarify that the Supreme Court's approach to sex discrimination in Bostock was correct, but that alone is an impt reason to pass the Equality Act now. Clarity in the law helps prevent discrimination on the front end, which is the goal. https://twitter.com/LambdaLegal/status/1362452961583054862
The Eq Act will also extend protection against discrimination far beyond LGBTQ+ community by adding protections against sex discrimination in public accommodations and federally-funded programs, & finally updating the pub acc provision to reflect life in the 21st Century.
As @shoeleatherkate explains, our current law permits women to be charged more than men for the same short haircut, and Uber drivers can cancel a ride b/c customer is black. This is wrong, and the Equality Act would fix it. We need it NOW. https://19thnews.org/2021/01/equality-act-would-fill-key-gaps-in-civil-rights-law-for-women-people-of-color-the-faithful/
Check out this important report from @lgbtmap explaining the urgency of adding such protections now— particularly to public places where people of color experience rampant discrimination, such as in retail shops and taxi cabs.
