"Had I not made the decision to attend Gurteen back in 2013 I feel that I would not be in the position I am today." Wonderful words from ex-student Shaun Diver!

Read more from Shaun, and his time at Gurteen below.
"I studied the FETAC Level 6 in Drystock Management at Gurteen College in 2013. I chose to attend Gurteen after researching the courses they offered, and I was amazed to find they had such a large scale fully operational farm with many different enterprises being demonstrated.
I felt that by attending Gurteen I would be exposed to Dairy, Sucklers, Sheep and Tillage. I wouldn't only receive education on the areas I am most passionate about, but I would gain experience in two more sectors.
I have great memories of being involved in the day-to-day farming in Gurteen, everyone was encouraged to get involved and it didn't matter how much experience you had everyone was given equal opportunity. I particularly enjoyed the summer of 2014 which I spent working on the farm
I gained a huge amount of experience in all the sectors the farm practices but especially in the suckler and sheep side and I feel it was the encouragement and experience I gained then that put me on the career path I’m on today.
After Gurteen I took up a job on a suckler and sheep farm not far from Gurteen in the Spring of 2015, farming 180 Sucklers and 500 ewes. I found the job through contacts made while in Gurteen.
In the spring of 2018, I responded to a job advert for the role as Farm Manager on Tullamore Farm, the Irish Farmers Journal Beef and Sheep demonstration farm and was offered the job- this is where I work today.
We run a 100 Spring calving Suckler herd and 250 mid-season lambing ewe flock, we are the only mixed grazing demonstration farm in Ireland. Demonstrating the best management practices we can, many of which I picked up in my time in Gurteen.
Had I not made the decision to attend Gurteen back in 2013 I feel that I would not be in the position I am today."

We're incredibly proud of Shaun and what he's achieved!
