THREAD UPDATE:

1) Smith county- low risk facility has had no power or water since Monday. Can't order commissary. County's put in a work order for bottled water but have no idea when it will be fulfilled. Sheriff's office asked @TxJailProject to help bring in bottled water.
2) Galveston county - see attached emails about lack of water, using buckets to pee and a pregnant woman.
3) Polk county - No running water.
4) Harris county - No running water yesterday. Toilets were backed up. Bottled water handed out with every meal. But differing accounts from the three separate buildings this a.m.
Harris contd.: Water is back on this a.m. but some floors don't have enough pressure to flush, some can flush. But it's all dirty brown water. One man told us, "we finally have enough soap b'cos there is no water to wash our hands!" Food rations have been cut significantly.
Harris contd.: Jailers don't have enough blankets themselves. Folks still cold & freezing in some pods. 16 veterans received Covid-19 vaccines. Folks concerned about kiosks not working and medical being affected. Especially seizure & Type 1 diabetes and psych meds.
5) Victoria - Reports of complete lockdown. No power, no running water. Folks concerned about medical issues.
6) Bowie - No running water. Freezing temperatures. Some women are not showing up in the system so their families can't "find" them or receive calls from them. They're sharing each other's phone accounts.
Thank you for all the incredible support and generosity you've shown us. We raised over $50,000. We deposited over $5,500 in phone and commissary with a goal to deposit another $5,000 by end of day.
At a pace of $4K-$5K a day, we will continue distributing these funds to folks trapped in jails and their families, and to compensate our volunteers who are working to transcribe complaints. Thank you to all our amazing volunteers. We couldn't do this without y'all!
