Hello @heatherkmak allow me to help unpack.
A thread. https://twitter.com/heatherkmak/status/1362430416167317504
A) the animal feed is a byproduct of human palm oil. Similar to feeding soymeal to animals after extracting soyoil from the soybean.
As for deforestation for human edible veg oil, check out https://rspo.org/
B) health implications of the cow fed palm extract has been extensively studied for a couple decades and proven to have a positive influence when used accordingly
C) transparency of what goes in your food, we feed regulatory approved feed to animals, labeling each ingredient like alfalfa, oats, barley, soybean, canola, palm, corn, all vegetative products, would make labels unworkable
D) long term health implications for humans, um, palm oil is in many vegetable spreads for ages, as well as cosmetics. Palm oil supplies 35% of veg oil usage around the world (using 10% of the land dedicated to veg oil), in short, those implications are known
E) industrialization of ag. I don't know where to begin on this one, agriculture has been using science to advance production for generations.
Final point. Palm meal to animals is a by product of human food chain material, put through the animal food chain to turn into a human food chain feed product. An energy source that works well under certain conditions as a feed suplement.
There are only 2 questions to ask in #buttergate.
1. Does palmitic acid supplement affect the finished dairy product and
2. If so, at what levels.
Keeping in mind, many consumers have said they seen no noticeable difference in the spreadability of their butter.
