Parents are legally required to support their minor children. Supporting kids includes providing food, clothing, shelter, & basic care. Failing to provide for kids can lead to neglect or abuse charges in most states. Imo, elected officials are like parents of their state. (1)
I agree we are NOT children we are adults. I agree the state didn’t decide to have this many children.

I’m also new to politics (naïve ik). What if politician’s were held to the same standards and looked at people that need help as children? People just want the basics. (2)
In Texas, electricity, clean water, and the ability to drive safely would be a good start. Going 36 hours without power or hot water in below freezing temps! Legally I can’t do that to my child. I have a responsibility. Elected officials decided to represent the people.
When did asking for help become a weakness? Imagine having to ask for shelter, food, water.

I'll wait.

Some of you don't have to imagine. I've been there and its a humbling experience. Ik- some people abuse the system - “shut up!”
We've been taught this lie we can be anything, just work hard enough. The people that are working the hardest are getting paid the least. IK- you work hard; most of us are workhorses regardless of our pay. But switch jobs for a day with someone making 10.00 an hour (4
Or teachers! Parents with w/online students imagine 24 kids like yours (each different needing different things) and trying to keep their attention and smile during a pandemic and teach your child something. Kids don't want to listen it's hard to teach them things.
I'm rambling. This is America damn it, and we suck right now.
IK - It’s not your fault, it the other person (they told me the same thing). As a person, I can help because other people have helped me get here. I shouldn't be here, and I will always pay that forward.
If our elected officials won't help, then what should people do? If they had a place to go, they would; if they could get that job, they would. Any objection you can think of ends with “they would.” People don't want to be poor and suffer. It's not a choice.
IK - it's not simple, but as an elected official, it's your job. I hope you have some ideas. Things have to change.

IK- life isn't fair, it's cruel (& lovely, but f%*k it's hard). If you believe that life isn't fair is an answer for someone less privileged than you.
You are the problem.
