/ I just looked at my Social Security statement that shows earnings by year. The trend stops at 2008 (year of my arrest) and picks up in 2009 with a new, much lower trend. I projected out my wages had I never been justice impacted and I compared them to my actual earnings.
/ The salary hit to me was about $1.8 million. If I assume a low number for taxes (10% Federal, 4.5% CT), that's a lost revenue of $181k for federal and $81k for the state. Instead, the state paid money for a probation officer for five years and paid for an unnecessary registry
/ office. I was assessed at low risk from the start. I've said before, my issues could have been dealt with privately and I'd be exactly where I am now -mentally healthy and no danger to anyone. Now, let's take my $1.8 million and think about the impact on so many
/ lives, so many communities. As a society, we still have quite a way to go before we're civilized. We need to help people heal and restore and allow them to live up to their fullest potential -- whatever that potential. We should be helping people reach that potential -
/ instead, we place countless barriers. Who will join the effort to remove those barriers? /end
