Ok look was there all this discourse about the Maleficent movies? Did I just miss it? Right now I'm seeing a bunch of white people yell about HOW DARE DISNEY MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT THE PUPPY KILLER while simultaneously saying they want a movie about Ursula.
Ursula and Maleficent harmed HUMAN BEINGS y'all. Well mermaids in the case of Ursula but you get me.

And I'm like... Could y'all be less stereotypically white.
If making a movie to make the puppy killer sympathetic is bad, it is also bad to make movies making people who harm human beings sympathetic. Have some moral consistency.
And then there was the person, evidently queer, who said the revolutionary thing to do with Cruella would be to make her queer and I've kind of had it with young people who missed out on all the years when EVERY FUCKING PSYCHOPATH IN MOVIES was queer-coded.
Possibly this has a lot to do with me serving in the military under Don't Ask, Don't Tell, but being subject to a witch hunt - well, a queer hunt - by the Nav Officer because I got drunk in San Diego & made out with my girlfriend in public and someone saw us and rumors got to him
Luckily the CO made him knock it off. But this shit was happening THIS CENTURY, y'all. That was 2004.
BUT I DIGRESS. This is one reason why the framing of dogs as "fur babies" bugs the shit out of me. We as white people have coded them as de facto white children and thus see them as more sympathetic than anyone we code as out-group.
White people are notorious for being more outraged by harm to dogs than harm to BIPOC, but also cis people will be more concerned for dogs than trans people, abled people will be more concerned for dogs than disabled people, etc.
Because we have coded dogs as helpless innocent fur babies, our children, perpetual infants in more need of our compassion than *other adult human beings*.

It is quite frankly creepy.
Anyway please think about what you're doing when you're all "OMG HOW DARE THEY MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT THE PUPPY KILLER THEY SHOULD MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT THE PERSON WHO HURT HUMAN BEINGS INSTEAD"
