To the people saying - iF nOt CONgRSS, then who?

The Nellie massacre founded the basis of a renegotiation of the Assam Accord, which Mrs Gandhi formally accepted in 1983.

The renegotiated Assam Accord was signed between the perpetrators of the Nellie massacre — AASU — and Rajiv Gandhi-led Congress party’s government.

This Assam Accord, 1985, led to the amendment of the Citizenship Act, by inserting the clause that either of the parents of an individual must be an Indian citizen during their birth for them to be considered as an Indian citizen if they were born after 1 July 1987.

It was this Assam Accord, 1985, which paved the way for the NRC implementation in Assam, considering 24 March 1971 as the cut-off date.

Due to this Accord, the cases against the perpetrators of the Nellie massacre were withdrawn.

The impunity enjoyed by the perpetrators of the Nellie massacre further inspired the 1984 Sikh massacre, the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992, the Bombay riots of 1992 and the 2002 Gujarat pogrom.

Still, congRSS is a better option
