Argh @OttawaMorning, sexual misconduct is not a thing. If someone is being harassed at work, it’s harassment, a form of workplace violence. Please use the right word; misconduct minimizes the behaviour and the impact.
Using minimizing language about violence and harassment perpetuates a culture that sweeps behaviour under the rug, posing a deterrent to reporting. It’s harmful to the people who experience it.
It’s so important to voice these stories, especially in institutions like @OttawaPolice. But it does no justice to the stories of those impacted if they are framed using inaccurate and minimizing language.
aaaand heard it again on the 9am @cbcradio news. I need to sit down with whoever writes these pieces and do a little seminar on violence and harassment at work
