So Pokémon Day is next week and there's a whole load of speculation etc. so I figured I'd make a tweet thread explaining what we know, and historical context & precedent.

TPCi said there will be announcements throughout next week for across the entire franchise.

Pokémon Day falls on a Saturday this week. In Nintendo Direct history, there has only been 1 Nintendo Direct that fell on a weekend, and it was Japan only. In 2016, Pokémon Day was also on a Saturday and we had a Direct on Friday February 26th (though it was midnight in Japan)
2016 was the first Pokémon Day & the big Pokémon 20 anniversary and featured a variety of things

A Direct revealed the logos for Sun & Moon, and the ability to transfer from Virtual Console games.

It had the TCG set Generations, focused on Kanto, as well as a lot of merchandise
It also provided the year of Mythical Pokémon with special merchandise and distributions each month from February to December. This included plush, TCG promos and more

Virtual Console releases also launched on Pokémon Day in 2016
2017 was far more subdued. There was a Pokémon GO event and Gallery Figures were introduced

2018 was equally subdued. Another GO event, Pikachu Talk on Smart Devices and Snapchat filters. The first full trailer for The Power of Us also dropped in Japan
2019 had a bit more. We had the Pokémon Direct revealing Sword & Shield on Pokémon Day itself. There was a GO event and the release of Pokémon Shirts.

The day before we had a trailer for Detective Pikachu. The day after we had a trailer for Mewtwo Strikes Back EVOLUTION
2020 had a bit more synergy. It had the Pokémon of the Year results culminating in the reveal of Zarude and the first Secrets of the Jungle trailer.
There was a Max Raid Battle Event in SWSH, GO Event, a GO Raid Day with Nidorino & Gengar and Red getting added to Pokémon Masters
In addition to that in 2020, we had the Johto Pokémon Shirts announced and the International release of Mewtwo Strikes Back EVOLUTION, and the GO event tied into that

There were a few small things celebrating on various TV channels and social media across the world each year too
2021 will be an unusual one. We don't know specifics yet but we have GO Tour Kanto and Kanto event in GO and Pokémon Masters 1.5 Anniversary event coming.

We have P25 Music announced for this year including the Post Malone concert on Pokémon Day and lots of TCG stuff.
But yeah, that's the history of Pokémon Day celebrations since it really became a thing in 2016 with the 20th anniversary.

Don't get too crazy with things. We know stuff is coming in the week leading up to Pokémon Day. It's not news that it is coming that week.
