The government wants to draw up a new strategy for Violence against Women and Girls. It is asking people with lived experience to respond to a survey to inform this work.
Here are some basic demands that would make a radical difference, which we desperately need to see.
Pre-trial education on rape myths to be mandatory for all jurors in every rape and sexual assault case.
Rape myths are pernicious and dangerous. They lead to victim blaming and prevent women reporting rape. They excuse sexual aggression and influence the outcome of trials as well
as sentencing. If you don't know what rape myths are, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_myth

We need a well-funded, sustained, national public awareness campaign around sexual violence in the same way the drink driving campaign has been run for 50 years.
In 10 yrs following the conception of THINK! in 2000, road deaths fell by 46%.
We need the same action on sexual violence - systemic, societal attitude shift, from the top down.

Education around sexual violence, safe relationships and pornography to be mandatory in all schools.
And from at least year 7. We must be realistic about the epidemic of harm pornography is doing to our children and educate them fully – not just a mention in sixth form.
By the time they leave school it's too late.
University rape stats are horrific https://bit.ly/3k0AQQj
The sector needs sustained, long-term funding. Referrals are through the roof. Demand isn’t going away and we need to spend our time focusing on service delivery, development and performance, in the knowledge that we will be funded adequately if we continue to perform.
