I can’t believe there are people who think that Google & Facebook are the villains of the changing algorithms story. Those changes brought better info to users after content mill farms learned to game the old ones...
As someone whose life work from ~2009-2013 was figuring out to game SEO & FB rules to hawk poor content about, like, olive oil nutrition, i can assure you the media are somewhere be the bad guys in this story & a neutral corporate force which shouldn’t be confused with Democracy
Do you want every search result or thing in your feed to be a circa 2011 Mic article about whether that new music video is sexist? or some bad health advice written by a 19-year-old? No? Then STFU
Anyway, the biggest problem with The Discourse & what passes as political wisdom about tech today is it’s written by folks w/no memory of how media & the internet used to be more than six minutes ago
The greatest trick the US press ever pulled was convincing people it’s above the concerns of other corporations....
