The action follows a tweet by Miss Williams, retweeted by the MS, which said: "Another perp using the ‘I just snapped’. It is complete bulls***! As so many of us will know, there would have been history of domestic abuse. I hope this jury finds him guilty of murder."
His Honour Judge Paul Thomas QC says he takes the view that the tweet and retweet made while the jury was considering its verdict was "something which ran the risk of influencing a jury had they become aware of it".
The judge says he is particularly concerned as jurors in the trial may have lived in Plaid MS Helen Mary Jones' constituency.
Barrister Stephen Rees, for Jones, says the MS had no intention of interfering in the administration of justice. He says she did not properly read the tweet before retweeting - he says it was "in effect negligence".
The barrister says the MS was "mortified" when she realised what she had done, and "accepts without reservation she is entirely at fault".
The barrister ask the judge to find that her contempt has been purged by her apology, and says that an admonishment would be suitable rather that further contempt proceedings.
