The secret sauce to what Utah is doing offensively isn't just that they hit threes or they hurt you once you get in rotation. It's that things have flipped a little. Gobert's gravity used to unlock skip passes, now those skip passes almost unlock his rolls.
(stick with me)
Ingles comes down in P&R. Clippers mess up the switch, Niang is open on the perimeter and Ingles fires it right to him. Bobbles the catch but still drives the closeout and finishes. Seems like a really basic play.
Next time, Gobert screens for Ingles. Want you to look at the weakside. Both Morris/Williams are off their man but also outside of the paint. You can write it off as bad defense that's ok, it's also staying at home. Easy lane for Gobert to roll, Ingles holds Zubac and dumps
Gobert screens for Ingles again and Jackson/Morris on the weakside are in better help position but again notice there is no tag, no touch. Used to be an automatic to pull in then recover. Another easy roll for Gobert to the basket.
I could be off, it could just be bad defense but the Jazz are ok just reading the defense and making the right play. It's not just reliant on the roll to open things up. Delivering whichever poison you choose right now.
What used to be automatic help is another opportunity for Utah to throw some doubt in defenders minds. Kicking it to open shooters puts something in the back of your mind and now you sometimes forget that's Gobert rolling. Anyways.
