The Senate voted to adopt #BillC7 with amendments.

My understanding is the Liberal govt now has option to bring back all, some or none of the amendments to the HoC to be voted on. If they do not then it goes back to the Senate.
I don't think there are any hail Mary's left.
This is terrible day in Canadian history. This is a terrible day for disabled people in Canada.
Shameful day for every human involved in supporting #BillC7 You will all have disabled blood on your hands.
Disabled people are familiar with grief. With injustice.
Where we normally grieve individually, isolated and alone, today we grieve as a community collectively together. Our tears will water the future. Our rage will upend and burn ableism to the ground. We will emerge.
We will win. Not today. But we will win. We will win because #AccessIsLove
We will because crip culture is the future.

We will because our existence is truth. Our humanity is justice.

I love you all. Take all the care.
I will say one last thing about #BillC7
In our meeting just now with NDP Garrison he insisted that track 2 applied to both disabled and non-disabled people. I said no that's not true. To qualify for track 2 you are by definition disabled. He said no doctor had said that to him.
My point is the NDP voted in favour of a bill and they, like most of Canada, don't even understand the implications of the bill or what it means to be disabled. They assumed chronic illness is something 'different.' This is the harmful legacy of hierarchy, of ableism...
But also the harmful legacy of many of this country's disability organizations.

As we dismantle ableism let's be sure to dismantle those too. Who was silent about #BillC7 has no place at any table anywhere speaking for or about disability.
It was a really striking moment. Garrison kept mentioning things and I kept replying "that's a disability"
until he stared silently into the zoom and said: Well I don't know what to say, in all my meetings no doctor every said that everyone in #BillC7 track 2 is disabled.
I told him that doctors are not very knowledgable about disability politics and he need only look at Statistics Canada website and its definition of disability.

I couldn't believe it but yet I can.
. @SpringHawes made the point even more clear.
Spring: If you go to the doctor and say I feel hopeless and want to die would they offer MAID?
Garrison: No
Spring: That's the difference. If I went they would.
