So today raised a wider point of diversity in digital PR and I wanted share a few thoughts. One of the first things I think needs to be done in the digital pr/marketing world is to stop thinking with the attitude of “I don’t see colour” (no shade at anyone specific) 1/5
The issue with this phrase is that it indicates a lack of empathy and also diminishes the very idea that there is any bias in the industry, when unfortunately, there is 2/5
I won’t go on for ages because it’s a pandemic and everyone is tired but what I will say is that having these uncomfortable conversations is important but it is more important to KEEP having them and actually start to make small changes in your working practise 3/5
How? AMPLIFY the voices of those black and brown marketers you know. Add them to your lists, shout about them on Twitter, include their work in your roundups and include them in any groups you’re creating 4/5
And if you are creating a panel of speakers for an event please, for the love of god, TAKE A LOOK at the panel of people and include some diversity because there are some bloody incredible people in this industry who deserve a break 5/5
That’s all. Everyone in the industry is so so incredible at sharing thoughts, being supportive and working so hard to make it a great industry to be in. Let’s just keep working to make sure it’s equally as inclusive for everyone 🤗❤️
Just one last last thing to add, this thread of tweets was completely inspired by @HarrietSmallies who began this conversation last night, not me.
