Something that only came up a bit in the RBMS social media discussion was issues of activism and politics on social media, which I want to touch on briefly before getting back to work:
The bottom line is that if saying Black Lives Matter or Trans Rights or something causes an institution to not want to hire you because those things are "too political," you probably don't want to be working for them. HOWEVER
I am saying this from a financially and socially secure position. Capitalism sucks, and sometimes you have to take a job and fly under the radar for a bit so you can pay for groceries.
But this all wraps back around to intentionality: if you're putting it out on the internet, expect it to be found, for better or for worse. Us Old Millennials joke about how we were told to never have any identifying information online, but...
In some ways, it's still true. What @Bibli_be_Us said about constant surveillance is spot-on. Curating and being intentional with your public social media presence and thinking in terms of "What would a potential employer think of this" will help.
