a lot of the criticism of NY Times bro is starting to sound a little gatekeeper-y which, you know, I bet she's pretty sensitive about given the death threats she collects about directing a football AND a Marvel movie - and suddenly people I like are making fun of the work she
was able to get in this FUCKED up industry after writing/directing an Oscar-nominated film about the impact of broken men on themselves & their society. Hannah Gadsby did exactly the same in a more uncompromising way and she got a golden throne. So, I'm asking you, what the fuck?
And look - I LOVE B&W movies. I adore them. I have been a writer about and a teacher of them for decades. It's become my life to champion old, foreign, off-the-radar films. I hope this has made me a better person and not an appreciably worse one.
She's tough. And she's fought people a lot tougher than film historians, I promise you. Like all the people who have adopted the Punisher for white supremacy for instance. She doesn't need me to stick up for her, but fuck, she also doesn't need the "good" folks to attack her.

Consider this, too, if I ran a block chain on the most vocal offenders today, I would be blocking a good chunk of my "friends" on here who follow them. That makes me really sad that I spend so much time in this bunker. It's really fucked w/my perception of what "good people" are.
