The @HouseDemocrats' #ObamaCare proposal would offer its largest subsidies to high earners, offer more subsidies to men than women, cover few previously uninsured (at a very high cost), and push health care prices & health premiums higher.

The @HouseDemocrats' #ObamaCare proposal:
- A 64yo earning $19,300 gets an additional $800 subsidy (CBO).
- A 64yo earning $58,000 gets a $7,800 subsidy (CBO).
- A 60yo family of four earning $210,000 gets an $11,400 subsidy ( @Brian_Blase).

After #ObamaCare increased premiums for near‐elderly women more than any other group, the @HouseDemocrats’ proposal would offer greater subsidies on behalf of near‐elderly men by virtue of their higher incomes.

The @HouseDemocrats’ proposal would cover 1.3 million previously uninsured individuals at a cost per newly insured person of $16,825.
For comparison, the highest benchmark #ObamaCare premium is $12,900.

This is causing #ObamaCare supporters heartburn:
@HouseDemocrats made a deliberate policy choice to offer subsidies on behalf of higher‐income enrollees rather than spend those funds on behalf of lower‐income enrollees.

The additional $36B @HouseDemocrats seek to give insurance companies would do nothing to change the fact that even “currently healthy consumers cannot be adequately insured” under #ObamaCare ( http://www.nber.org/papers/w22832 ).

The problem with claiming Congress must respond to high health care prices and high health insurance premiums with subsidies is that subsidies *cause* higher health care prices and health insurance premiums.

If Congress wants to make health care affordable, it should eliminate health insurance subsidies.
Instead, @HouseDemocrats are perpetuating a vicious cycle of excessive insurance, higher medical prices, and higher health insurance premiums.

Bottom line:
--REASONABLE: Asking "SHOULD premiums be subsidized that heavily?"
--REASONABLE: Asking "WHY are premiums so high in the first place?"
--NOT REASONABLE: Doing MORE of what CAUSES high health prices & premiums because "affordability." https://twitter.com/charles_gaba/status/1362050247531384836
