BLOOD. - Is this the start of the album or the end? Only Kendrick knows! This track has a very cinematic feel and is an engaging opener to a highly anticipated album, through this Kendrick tells the story of a blind women shooting him. It also perfectly leads into the second 1/2
track on this album DNA. 2/2
DNA. - For me this is one of Kendrick’s best songs. Straight away we get the heavy layered beat drop which combines with Kendrick’s aggressive n meticulous flow. The beat then builds and transitions into an even heavier thumping atmosphere which accompanies Kendrick’s 1/2
Confident n relentless bars creating a perfect high energy track. 2/2
YAH. - This is a completely different energy n atmosphere to the previous track which shows Kendrick’s great versatility. Immediately we get a more laid back beat with a slower flow, where Kendrick raps about different issues n matters including politics, religion 1/2
N his family. The infectious hook makes this another great song. 2/2
ELEMENT. - The energy of the album switches up once again as we get kid Capri’s opening lines move to a more dark, grittier set of rhymes sliding over a catchy but unorthodox beat. The memorable hook where Kendrick boasts about being able to make anything look good helped 1/2
this song become one of the bigger hits of the album. From start to finish Kendrick sends warnings to his peers n rivals not to try him in or outside of rap. A truly GREAT moment on the album!! 2/2
FEEL. - This is another incredible song in Kendrick’s career. The instrumental is more soft then a masterpiece like U on TPAB, however the subject matter n personal depth on this song are equally deep. The main theme of the 2 verses in this song being the different pressures 1/2
in Kendrick’s life n how he can struggle to deal with them. The second half of this track is the highlight as the electric guitar comes into the instrumental along with a more urgent flow. Another OUTSTANDING song on this album. 2/2
LOYALTY. - For me this is another very impressive track on the album as Kendrick shows his unique ability as a hit maker who never manages to be too commercial n always keeps his artistry. The beat is made up of the start of Bruno Mars’s 24k Magic reversed backwards creating 1/2
A perfect setting for both Kendrick n Rihanna’s smooth flow n vocals to slide over. The catchy hook is the most important part of this song. 2/2
PRIDE. - The beat drop here creates a heavenly atmosphere. The slow beat accompanied by a slow unfamiliar Kendrick flow create a soothing environment for the listener. Kendrick’s singing on the hook is beautiful n glues this track together.
HUMBLE. - I feel like everyone in the world has heard this song by now l, it is undoubtedly one of Kendrick’s biggest. Although it prolly has been overplayed it is still a great. The thumping beat is unforgettable n when paired with one of his best hooks it is undeniably 1/2
enjoyable. His 2 verses are both high quality too, where he flexes his intricate n confident flow. But it’s all about the hook, BE HUMBLE, SIT DOWN. 2/2
LUST. - The entrancing instrumental is the highlight of this song. The main theme of the verses here is to live ur life how u wanna, n whatever u do with ur time make sure it’s to ur benefit. The hook here is both interesting n clever as Kendrick describes him being 1/2
thirsty without actually saying it. 2/2
LOVE. - This track is so beautiful, elegant n euphoric. Everything about this track is smooth n positive. Firstly Kendrick’s flow is effortless as he raps about more light hearted subject matter. But Zacari’s heavenly vocals featured in the hook make this song one of my 1/2
favourite moments on the album. 2/2
XXX. - There are so many aspects about this track to admire. As the track starts of with more stripped back production with throw back beat scratches n police sirens. Kendrick energises this part as he raps aggressively about not letting anyone touch his loved ones over the 1/2
course of a call with his friend. As the beat transitions into a more slow layered instrumental we hear U2 before another Kendrick verse where he raps about America n it’s political issues, this section is also closed of by the well chosen U2. 2/2
FEAR. - This along with FEEL are the moments on this record where Kendrick’s at his most vulnerable. This track has one of the best instrumentals on the album n Kendrick raps his 3 verses expertly over it. In each verse he raps about a different moment in his life where he 1/2
has felt fear towards different things. Although this song is around 8 minutes it is utilised very well, an excellent track. 2/2
GOD. - Although this is the lowest point on the album this track is still fun n enjoyable. The instrumental is light n easy to listen to n the hook is good.
DUCKWORTH. - This is potentially the best song on the album n the fact that it’s not definite reflects the overall quality of the record. Throughout this last song Kendrick tells the crazy story of how his dad n Top Dawg met n knew each other before Kendrick’s relationship 1/2
with TDE. The excellent beat transitions bring so much life to this song. This is the perfect way to end the album n for a lot of ppl I’m sure this song will make it into there top 10 Kendrick songs. 2/2
