The senate health committee heard a bill this morning that you should know more about. SB1362 defines emergency contraception (EC) as equal to abortion and will allow hospitals and health care workers to refuse to give EC because of religious beliefs.

No matter your stance on abortion, it is important to understand the medical difference between emergency contraception and abortion. While an abortion interrupts an established pregnancy, EC does not. Oppose SB1362.  @NavarreteAZ  @GonzalesSally #DisinfoDebunk  #HandsOffAZ
EC pills work by stopping or delaying ovulation. They DO NOT prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg and they have NO EFFECT on an established pregnancy. This is supported by multiple medical studies. @RosannaGabaldon #DisinfoDebunk #HandsOffAZ
EC can prevent up to 95% of pregnancies when taken within 5 days after unprotected sex. It's most common use is when there are concerns about contraceptive failure like, the condom broke. Why wouldn't you want people to have this option? @WendyRogersAZ #DisinfoDebunk #HandsOffAZ
EC is also provided to people after sexual assault. Why would you not want to do that?  @tjshopeforAZ @TylerPaceAZ @NancyBarto #DisinfoDebunk #HandsOffAZ #HandsOffMyEC
EC is safe. The most common formulation has been FDA approved for 22 years. In fact, it is so safe, it is available as an over-the-counter medication. @WendyRogersAZ @NancyBarto @TJShopeforAZ @TylerPaceAZ #DisinfoDebunk #HandsOffAZ #HandsOffMyEC
