1. In Philadelphia, @davidrubinmd just testified to the City Council, saying that with falling virus cases and "accumulating evidence," he is now advocating for schools to open, after previously calling for them to remain closed.
3. Dr. Rubin says modernizing school buildings is an important lesson of the pandemic, however, he sees simple strategies like opening windows and doors, and using fans, as adequate to mitigate transmission in the short term.
4. Dr. Rubin says he does not believe the U.K. variant will change his recommendations, saying, "We now have forces acting against transmission that seem to be outweighing innate increased transmissibility." Those forces are the season change and increased immunity in population.
5. The most important mitigation measure is masking, he says several times: "If you did one thing and one thing well, it is to make sure everyone is wearing a mask, covering their nose really well and closing those pockets at the side of the face.”
6. On in-school screening testing, he is suggesting targeting higher-risk students, such as those involved in sports.
