For I Read Canadian Day I'd like to highlight some amazing picture books starting with The Funeral by @MrMattCJames. My fave moment is when Norma practices her sad face in the mirror. Captures a child's perspective perfectly. ❤️
The Proudest Blue by @IbtihajMuhammad & @SajidahWrites with illustrations by @metahatem. Read this book to hear Mama's advice on carrying around hurtful words. What she says is both beautiful & wise. ❤️
King Mouse by Cary Fagan, illustrated by @DenaSeiferling. That mouse. That bear. That dramatic performance in the field. This book is an absolute delight.
Africville by Shauntay Grant, illustrated by Eva Campbell. "Take me to where the pavement ends and family begins..." Gorgeous. ❤️
@nadialhohn's Malaika series illustrated by @irenelux. These books are incredible. If you ever get a chance to see Nadia present her books live, you'll be in for a real treat. ❤️
Anything by @larsenesque. He has too many picture books to list. Read them all. 😁
And big thanks to the all of the wonderful educators who put Canadian books in kids' hands! @Ms_St_Aubyn @hicknell @NancyClow @DebbieH039 @DonnaPopplewell @mmechumley @renegadebooker
Thanks also to @Rabia_Khokhar1 for highlighting the importance of inclusion in children's books & showing us how to think critically about the stories we read. https://www.rabiakhokhar.com/ .
And finally, Happy I Read Canadian Day to @r_bittner, who is the biggest champion of Canadian kidlit I know! 😍
