Assalamu Alaykum, i am coming back from my twitter hiatus to share something important. This is time sensitive, ends at 5pm today (chicago time). A group of bigots are trying to stop a masjid being built, and they are getting people from everywhere to get the proposal rejected
they currently have a large majority in opposition. Please follow the instructions to support. It doesnt matter if youre not local, the other side is also doing the same thing so the masjid is asking for everyone's support. Please share widely

the opposing lawyer doesn't seem inherently against the project (one of them at least), just that it's too big for the residential area and some safety concerns with traffic or something. Worst case scenario they have to revise and be able to proceed, insha'Allah
I hope that doesn't have to happen, I remember our local masjid had to go through like many years of revisions before they can do anything, it was rough. inshallah khair
this also can be an excuse to keep delaying it in reality stopping it altogether. If they allow it after revision, that wouldn't be a big deal, but if they block it after revision after revision, then something's fishy
it also seems like the hindus were a vocal minority of the opposition.. the lawyers just seem more focused on revisions but maintain they're not against the mosque being built in general
the thing is too, the schools and churches they're mentioning w better access points while being similar in size isn't fair, the former were purpose built during city planning. Muslims don't have many good plots of land they can find, and with adequate funding.
