Ryan Shawcross. A few thoughts: My Dad spoke about Ryan (always Ryan, never Shawcross) like he did Denis Smith. From him, there was no greater compliment to a #scfc footballer. (1/5)
He passed away 6 yrs ago in March & Ryan's departure is the last link to the team he knew, which means him leaving is tinged with personal sadness. (2/5)
To Ryan I would say, the outside world judged you on one incident. They gave you a label as they did with our football club. It was easy, it was convenient & they were completely wrong. (3/5)
They thought they knew who you were. They didn't. They thought they knew what we were. They didn't. We did. And we were very proud. (4/5)
So thank you Ryan. Footballers come & go but once a generation one comes along & leaves an indelible mark on our football club. You played for #scfc how we fans dream that we would have played, with your heart & soul. Good luck to you & your family. We'll be with you. (5/5).
