I'm a born and raised Mainer who has experienced many cold days & nights with zero power and/or heat. Hopefully this will help someone:
•Gather all the blankets you have and USE THEM

•Wear 2 pair of socks

•Snuggling with partner(s) and pets saves lives... the combined body heat is great

•Use books, cardboard, whatever you have to block gaps under doors & windows that can let in tons of cold

•Don't be afraid to wear as many layers as humanly possible. Jackets, hoodies, you name it, it can help. Wear them to bed as well, as necessary

•If you haven't lost power but fear you might, fill the bathtub with water (you can use this water for flushing toilets, etc.) and fill as many clean containers as you can with water (this can be your drinking water) if you're able

•If you have a vehicle, it can help to sit in it running with the heat on for even just 15-20 mins.. Make sure the vehicle is OUTDOORS to avoid potential carbon monoxide poisoning; even w/ garage doors are wide open, the CO can still leak into the house from an attchd garage.

•Don't open your fridge or freezer unless you HAVE to, a couple openings a day can take tens of hours off the life of the food inside

•If you have a fireplace/safe source of heat and can safely fill a metal bucket with snow, it will melt and you can use it to flush toilets

•Stay hydrated and eat... I can't stress these two enough. Especially if you're not used to cold weather, it's extremely easy to get dehydrated

•If you don't have waterproof boots, you can wear plastic bags over your shoes, using an elastic to keep them up

•Check resources in your area for places offering bathrooms, showers, charging stations for your devices, etc.
