MAC JONES THREAD
Downfield Passing (30+ Yards)
Jones takes a lot of flack for playing with elite talent around him but he deserves a lot of credit for the accuracy and placement on these throws. He's deadly from the 35-45 yard range

PLAY #2 - GOOD
This 45 yard throw was insanely perfect. The timing, rhythm, and mechanics are flawless.

There's lots of talk about his arm strength but he puts this ball in a good spot about 52 yards downfield.

Another example of solid arm strength. Puts this one over 50 yards downfield without stepping up.

PLAY #7 - "BAD"
When Jones' downfield throws aren't perfect they usually look like this. Not bad, but underthrown. It typically happens when throwing downfield over 50 yards from the far hash to outside the numbers. Sometimes it seems Waddle outruns his arm strength.

Just doesn't put enough on this one. He's capable of putting this ball further downfield. It's when he's throwing 45+ yards downfield that we start to see less accuracy. Typically in terms of underthrowing.

PLAY #9 - BAD
Late. And again, throwing from outside the far hash to outside the numbers. The ball falls completely flat. This ball needs to be thrown much earlier or not at all. Even if it's thrown on time, I'd bet it's still slightly underthrown.

SUMMARY:
Jones downfield accuracy in the 35-45 yard range is phenomenal. Once he's throwing over 45 yards, we see some slight underthrows. Hash marks in the NFL are tighter so that may not be as big of an issue.

In the NFL, if he can consistently deliver on time downfield, he can be deadly. He won't make many 'wow' throws in terms of arm strength, but in terms of accuracy, he'll almost always give his WRs a chance to make a play on the ball. Underthrow > overthrow. Perfect is the best.
