Rush Limbaugh was the beginning of the end of the relationship between me and my father. In seventh grade my dad gave me a book by him to write a science paper on the environment. The science teacher tried his hardest to explain to me how these aren’t facts in the book.
My father had given me the script to argue back with the man. And I did and never relented till years later when I started to realize what my dad had been doing to me. Trying to indoctrinate me into a way of thinking and being.
Rush’s existence showed me that my dad was in a cult of personalities of “strong men” and that if I didn’t join that cult I would lose my father.
Tho my father is still alive we both have died to each other a long time ago. Rush was a watershed moment for us and I’m glad I saw through the ruse of his hate speech. I know my father mourns his death, I do not.
Conservatism may have a place in society (not my cuppa) but the people leading the movement have zero interest in making the world a better place for anyone but them. Rush will be replaced by another bigot talking head no doubt...
But his cruelty has left this earth and is only an echo of recorded hate speech. Hopefully, as time passes his words will lose their meaning and no more fathers will use it to try and brainwash their children.
