This is gonna be a thread: The fact that he was originally given a mouthpiece by a radio station in my hometown in CA would come as no surprise to anyone from the area. There is an insidiousness that Sacramento bred among its population, despite its “liberal” nature.
Any working artist or creative would speak in hushed tones about the division that didn’t seem to occur in other cities like it. Why was Austin and Portland able to unite on a cultural front, Sac was left with a bunch of in-fighting and squabbling. I believe Rush was a symptom
Of this disjointed vein of highly insidious and conservative ideology that infected my hometown particularly. There’s a reason it’s the home to the Golden state killer, to Richard Chase, and why the Unabomber targeted it twice. These aren’t mistakes.
I know I’m getting all Pepe Silvia and @televisionaryZW is totally rolling his eyes at me rn, but I believe the insidious nature of California politics, particularly as it relates to Sacramento, deserves far more attention, and blame, than it is given.
The only - and I mean ONLY - person to address this subject was Joan Didion.
