This little conversation made me wonder if the Dutch army had lancers after the Napoleonic Wars.
They did: the 10th Regiment Lancers

The Regiment was raised in 1818 and had to be active on January 1 1819.
A large amount of green cloth was in the stores as a result of the decrease of 'jager' battalions. The lancers were dressed in this material and got their name of 'green lancers'.

The regiment was to have 6 squadrons (the first years it were just 4).
The corps of 'Guides te paard' (guides on horse) were added to the regiment.

The first line was armed with a 2.67m lance.
The second line was armed with a carabine.
This was the karabijn M1815, based on a French model.
In the mid 1840 it was reconstructed for percussion.

All the lancers pistols. First the model M1815 (see picture via http://www.envedette.nl/wapens/ ), later the model 1820.
These were also modified for percussion in the mid 1840's

Of course, being light cavalry, the men were armed with sabres. In the beginning these were the models no1 m1813 (based on the British pattern 1796) and the model no2 (m1814) and no3 (m1815; so called new Dutch model)

In 1845 a new cavalry sword was introduced: the German made M1845.

The 10th came in action during the 10 Days Campaign against Belgium (August 2-12 1831).
Although part of the cavalry division, 2 sqns were attached to the 1st infantry division, the other 2 to the 3rd infantry division

At the last day of the campaign, the squadrons were reunited again near Leuven.

After the settlement with Belgium in 1839, a new squadron of lancers was raised. You the got the 1st and 2nd regiment lancers

However, in 1849 both regiments were disbandend (don't know the reason). The majority of the troops became the 4th Dragoons (picture left), a part became the 'jagers te paard' (chasseurs à cheval; picture right)
