The past couple of days haven't been friendly. In fact, they've been so cruel to so many of our neighbors. But that doesn't mean we can't find gratitude in the midst of the storm. Yesterday, my dog ran away after my daughter and I came back from getting groceries.
Running full speed, which is NOT fast, in the middle of a winter storm, is not fun. But thankfully, there was a kid who just happened to be in the right spot at the right time to help get my 4-legged chump back.
I don't remember the last time I was so cold. And keep in mind, my wife and I lived in Minneapolis for three years. My teeth chattered involuntarily, the hair on my arms stood at attention, and that was with three sweatshirts, two pairs of PJ pants and two pairs of socks on.
But my family and I still have a roof over our heads, clothes on our back, and food in our pantry. And on top of that, we have our health. Last night, I got to fall asleep to the sound of my kid reading Divergent to me.
This ain't supposed to be some sort of feel-good, stay positive tweet. Don't get me wrong, I know this sucks for a lot of people. This is me writing down what works for me. Gratitude. And the understanding that it can always get worse.
I really feel bad for the people suffering so bad and wish there was more for me to offer. Call 713-390-5723 if you need anything. I'm around.
