“An Exxon spokesman, Casey Norton, said he would not comment on the findings because he considered the reporter to be biased against the fossil fuel industry.”

People target Trump and the GOP for systematic attacks on journalism, but it’s industry, too https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/11/climate/fti-consulting.html
“One of FTI’s largest shareholders, the investment firm BlackRock, won kudos this year for saying it would put environmental sustainability at the center of its investment approach.”
How many years in a row has Larry Fink argued for “purpose” to drive decision-making?
Every business thought leader talks about purpose but it’s very transparently a myth. In our current system, No business can have purpose beyond maximizing growth. This is determined by companies like Blackrock that command c-suite decisions.
All the “purpose” talk you see in Fortune 500 companies is a way to feel better about extractive margin growth. That’s it. You’ll never see a company trade growth for purpose. Not once. The CEO would be fired.
It’s obvious why people talk about purpose: they know blind pursuit of extractive growth margins is both ugly, unpopular, and extremely costly to humanity. They know it’s bad. But instead of changing, they invent myths to justify it.
Anyway, keep in mind that almost any grassroots online presence you see that is vocally in favor of abusive industries is almost certainly a cut out for that industry and not representative of any constituency of real people. We’re in the age of scales sock puppets.
