THE TRICKY SECOND NOVEL - a thread.
I wrote a second novel. It took a year and was really hard. The magic wasn’t happening, and I couldn’t work out how or where to find it.
I thought perhaps I was being too tough on myself, so sent it to my editors and waited nervously...
It turned out it wasn’t just me. The response was “meh” (although put much more articulately and kindly). I thought perhaps I’d never write another good book again.
But I had an idea. One that had been nagging away at me for months. So I followed it to see where it led. And a book wrote itself. In about four months. It wasn’t hard at all, and I was pretty sure I’d found the magic. But, after my last disaster, I was really, really scared...
...but I plucked up my courage, and sent it to my agent and my editors. They’ve just got back to me.
THEY LOVE IT!
There’s months of editing to do, obviously. But I have the bones of a second novel. And now I’m going to eat cake and have an afternoon nap.
THE END.
