Thread: One part of the conversation about Ravi Zacharias that I see missing from some responses in the Christian community is an understanding of predatory grooming.

Grooming is the process of preparing a person or a community to accept what comes to them in such a way where it appears normal or unstoppable. It is intentional.

RZ systematically groomed his victims and he also groomed the Christian community into believing something about his power, intelligence, and character, so that when the time came to do the right thing, the community protected him instead of acting.

This coupled with spiritualized messaging is a grave weapon, indeed. Grooming does not absolve people of responsibility for missing the red flags or from mistreating the victims and whistleblowers, but understanding how predators operate is key to understanding the "how."

Predators manipulate and they arrange themselves and the people around them in such a way that ultimate allows them to continue what they're doing, with impunity. This is not a "fall" but a well thought out path.

It can feel disorienting when we realize it, which is one part of the destruction that happens when power is abused, and it is felt even more keenly by the survivors.
