A thread on CRT/I and the SBC in light of the SBC Students’ Statement on the same…1/10 https://www.sbcstudentsstatement.com
For those of us who have spoken out in opposition to CRT/I, we should do two things…First of all, if you’re going to speak out against CRT/I you should read several hundred pages of primary sources on the subject. It’s not that hard. Good resources are readily accessible. 2/10
If you’re going to critique a movement or an ideology, do it in its own words. Don’t just listen to podcasts, don’t steal notes from another guy’s research– study for yourself and THEN critique. 3/10
Secondly, if you’re going to critique CRT/I, be as specific as you can possibly be. Identify presuppositions, carefully define terms, and demonstrate clearly how CRT/I is in conflict with the BF&M, and more importantly, the Scriptures. 4/10
For those who, like the students who signed the SBC Students’ Statement, believe that CRT/I has a place in the SBC and should be utilized as “tools for analysis,” I encourage you to take a dose of your own medicine and explain exactly what you mean. 5/10
For you, the prescription should be the same. First, read several hundred pages of primary sources and then emerge from that study with concrete insights from CRT/I that you think the church needs to appreciate. 6/10
Secondly, be as specific as you can be. Identify presuppositions, carefully define terms, and distinguish the exact ways in which you think folks in the SBC can benefit from the insights of CRT/I. 7/10
If you fail to do this, you are just as guilty as those in the SBC who are lobbying very general charges against CRT/I without being specific in their critique. You also must offer up more than generalizations. You also must be as specific as possible in your arguments. 8/10
Remember, this controversy began with a very general resolution that encouraged pastors and churches to make use of CRT/I as analytical tools, without any specifics on the precise insights to be found in that worldview/ideology. 9/10
The generalizations BEGAN with proponents of the utility of CRT/I, not the opponents. It is high time for those who have been telling us to chew the CRT/I meat and spit out the bones to do the hard work of carefully defining the meat and the bones. 10/10
