I talked to Dan Crenshaw a lot for my book.
The right-wing culture war continues to be one of THE ONLY issues drawing young people to the right. Outrage is the only path forward for a party losing young people on nearly every policy issue. He's positioned himself accordingly

I have a whole chapter about how he and other young Republicans have handled Trump.
Dan defended Trump at nearly every opportunity, often pivoting away from whatever Trump did in order to attack whoever was criticizing the President. https://www.amazon.com/Ones-Weve-Been-Waiting-Generation/dp/0525561501

This anti-woke strategy is especially effective with young white voters who, like most of their peers, are not swayed by the GOP's message on taxes, small business or climate change-- but are VERY receptive to a conservative message on cancel culture/the sanctimonious left
Remember: ppl form their politics when they're young.
And campuses have been engulfed in debates over free speech, with young progressives pushing to aggressively tackle systemic racism and young conservatives pushing back to defend "heritage" / free exchange of ideas

These are the battle lines for many young adults. Which means the "free speech" / "anti-cancel culture" movement is the quickest (and maybe ONLY) on-ramp for young ppl into today's GOP
