Your Guide to Hitting Your Goals

•••THREAD•••
First off, you’re probably writing your goals down wrong.

You’re writing:
I want to get an A+ in class

You should be writing:
- A+ in chemistry
• study 1 hour everyday
• weekly meetings with professor
• no late assignments
• use planner to track homework
People aren’t specific enough with their goals.

You write down a dream and hope you get there.

Instead, you need to write down what you want and actionable steps about how you’ll get there.

You’re much more likely to follow a plan than you are to figure it out along the way.
1. Figure Out Your Future

Where do you want to be in 5 years?
What do you want to be doing?
What is your ideal 5-year future?

Get a piece of paper and write it out. Get as detailed as you want.

The next five years will be aimed directly at this future. Commit to it now.
2. Break it Down

You’re not going to be doing the same things in 4 years as you are now.

Get another piece of paper and write 2021 at the top.

Write down however many goals you can accomplish and then add two more.

All of these goals should be tailored to your 5-year future.
3. Break it Down Again

Now you know what you need to have done by the end of the year.

What can you do this month to accomplish some of that?

Get another piece of paper and write February at the top.

Write down what goals you need to accomplish before the end of this month.
Once again, these goals should be aimed to get you at least (if not more) than 1/12 of the way to your yearly goals.

You should be doing this every month throughout the year.

At the end of every month, reflect on what you’ve done and what you haven’t.

Figure out why and plan.
4. Break it Down AGAIN

Grab a small notepad and write the date at the top.

Create a checklist of things you need to accomplish today.

These tasks should be aimed at your monthly goals. It’s also where you can track all the busy work you have to do.
You should be adding things to your list:
• the night before
• the day of

Plan ahead to make your days easier and full of purpose.
Now you have 4 levels to tracking your goals and choosing your future.

If you follow these steps, you could be the exact person you want to be in 5 years time.

Now is the time to start.
