If you think people deserve to freeze to death because of their politics, you’re not a liberal or a progressive or a socialist or whatever. Full stop.

EVERYONE should have their basic needs met. That’s literally the baseline for the left. That’s it.
Like, you’re already lost at the point of saying “well there are Democrats in Texas too” as if that’s the issue. That’s just saying “we can’t sort the right people out so I guess we shouldn’t wish harm on them.”
And I’m not saying “Oh I think asshole right wingers deserve our respect, attention, or to have their policies listened to.” They don’t! But all humans deserve to have food, shelter (and heat!), and healthcare. Full stop. FULL STOP.
