Very difficult days in North Inner City of Dublin. A community that I am privileged to represent. Letter here in today's @IrishTimes
Many people working very hard to overcome the challenges we face. Investment is key. The new Summerhill Primary Care Centre, the new Seville Place primary school building, the rebuilt Mary’s Mansions & work on re-opened Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station are all making a difference
The North East Inner City Taskforce which supports the regeneration of the area is seeing real results. Total additional investment for area since 2016 is more than €30m. Used for a homeless, drug and alcohol services, greening initiatives and schooling and training programmes.
Funding also being used to support dedicated @gardainfo activities to tackle crime & anti-social behaviour in D1 & surrounding area. A community addiction assessment hub has also been established for individuals who use non-opioid drugs, like alcohol, cannabis, benzodiazepines
City Connects is a new pilot programme, which builds a network of supports in schools for students, families and the schools themselves to improve outcomes. The Career LEAP programme also helps 18-25 year olds to gain valuable work experience & bolsters confidence.
There is much going on in the North Inner City that warrants scrutiny. I know that. But there is so much being done to make a difference to the very problems that many are determined to overcome. And we will
