They say the older one becomes, the wiser they become. However in the case of Mr. 1986, it seems the reverse is sadly true. In the mid to late 80s when he was younger, he was selfless, thoughtful, patriotic & forward thinking. One might even stretch it & say he was democratic.
Over 3 decades in power & his wisdom and cognizance seems to have waned. Mr. 1986 is now a man whose memory fails him quite often, he is increasingly paranoid, angry, removed from reality, totalitarian, inconsiderate and just so power hungry. It’s almost sad to see him lose it.
If this is what growing old does to people, I don’t know if many will be too excited to get there; and yet that should be the purpose of life - to grow old & watch your kids and your kids’ kids grow into adults as you sit back, relax and watch the sun set on your life.
It’s almost embarrassing that neither Mr. 1986 nor his bootlicking inner circle have thought about how important it is to quit the game while you’re at the top. True, he is no longer at the top but every day that passes, Mr. 1986 slides lower & lower down the ladder of heroism.
In the final scene of ‘The Dark Knight’, Harvey Dent says something that I think Mr. 1986 needs to internalize before he goes to bed.

“You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

Do the right thing, Mr. 1986. 🙏🏾
