Short 🧵 Speaking to my @AberUni @InterpolAber personal tutees to see how they are coping with studying online really reveals the complicated juggling acts that many of them are doing in the midst of the pandemic and how challenging it can be to stay on track with their studies.
2/ We have students with caring responsibilities for others within their households. Many of the students I am in contact with have part-time paid employment, which is crucial for their economic security and allows them to continue with their academic work.
3/ Many (perhaps all) are struggling with motivation, self-discipline and time management issues in the absence of those external prompts that would normally get them out of their rooms and into specialised university spaces for studying, learning, and interacting with others.
4/ Some are studying from home where home is in a different time zone, and face the additional challenges of attending online teaching sessions at extremely unsocial hours.
5/ Despite all the challenges, I have serious respect for the determination, energy and cheerfulness our students are exhibiting.
end/ And for those who have read this far, enjoy a bonus picture of Bruce reading over my shoulder.
