So I see Wings has written a blogpost starting with his joy about this tweet - the thing which was weaponised was the sexual assault of a friend’s daughter. He also claims that I’m responsible for the existence of his blog-sewer. If that were true I would owe you all a very large apology, like someone who tracked dogshit all across someone’s fancy white carpet.
What he’s referring to is that ten years ago @malch and @jeffbres and I ran a blog that was much better than his.
He, then unknown to a wider public, contributed an article which we accepted but sadly didn’t scan carefully enough, missing a weird slur about the Welsh. Our apology to our readers over this made him angry and confused, like a hyena that had been hit in the head by a truck.
Next, we had a guest post from a feminist - and when the comments, which passed for the home of political debate in those days - started to fill up with rape apologism, now one of his stock-in-trade themes, we moderated the shit out of them. This enraged him further.
So the claim here is “if only we hadn’t thought it a bit off to slur the Welsh, and if we hadn’t then chosen not to host rape apologism in the comments of our blog, maybe his inflated ego wouldn’t have led him to set up his own blog”. Seems unlikely to me, but there we are.
Of course, he’s now permanently banned from here for hate speech, but he’ll still be reading this thread. Not being able to reply must chafe, when you’re fading into irrelevance and exposing ever more clearly the necrotic hate which got you drummed out of video game journalism.
